Post Graduate Work Permit (PGWP)

Have you completed your studies in Canada and want to gain work experience in your field? The Post Graduate Work Permit (PGWP) is your gateway to entering the Canadian workforce. At Saga Immigration, we assist international graduates in seamlessly transitioning from student life to professional employment by providing complete support throughout the PGWP application process.

What is a PGWP?

What is a PGWP?

The Post Graduate Work Permit allows international students who have graduated from eligible Canadian institutions to work in Canada for a period ranging from 8 months up to 3 years. This open work permit gives you the flexibility to work full-time or part-time for any employer, in any industry, without the need for a job offer or an LMIA (Labour Market Impact Assessment). It is one of the most critical stepping stones toward permanent residency through programs such as the Canadian Experience Class.

Who is Eligible?

Who is Eligible?

To qualify for a PGWP, you must:

  • Have completed a full-time program of study at a Designated Learning Institution (DLI) that lasted at least 8 months

  • Apply within 180 days of receiving official confirmation (such as final grades or a letter of completion) that your program requirements have been met

  • Hold valid status in Canada or apply for restoration if your status has expired

  • Not have received a PGWP previously for another program of study

  • Ensure your institution and program type are eligible under IRCC’s criteria

Please note that PGWP approval is ultimately at the discretion of the immigration officer. Submitting a well-prepared application with accurate documentation and timelines is essential.
