Sponsors can include a spouse or common-law partner’s income if they are co-signing the sponsorship.
Sponsored Person Eligibility
Eligible individuals include:
Parents or grandparents of the sponsor or of the sponsor’s spouse/common-law partner
May be biological or adoptive parents/grandparents
Must undergo and pass medical, security, and criminal background checks
Dependent children of parents/grandparents (i.e., the sponsor’s siblings) cannot be included in the PGP application unless they meet the definition of a dependent child.
Program Overview and Quota
The PGP operates through a lottery-based system, where interested sponsors must first submit an Interest to Sponsor form during the intake period set by IRCC. Those selected through the random draw are then invited to submit a full sponsorship application.
Due to high demand and limited spots, planning ahead and ensuring all documentation is prepared in advance is essential for timely submission after receiving an invitation.
